11th August update: 7 days old
We have now completed our second vet check up (the puppies will be checked again at 6 ½ - 7 weeks of age for general health, sight, hearing, movement, hearts, etc. and her pup was originally checked within hours of their birth), and we have obtained thumbs up in relation to general health for both mum & her puppy. The vet was especially impressed with the size of puppies that Ulla has produced.
Her little GIRL weighed in at 1.1 kg at just 3 ½ days of age!
With an average of 75 – 150g daily gains we are extremely hopeful that Ulla will go onto prove her abilities of producing really good bone, as well as confirmation, gorgeous aesthetics, and temperament.
We can’t wait to meet the forever homes already upon our puppy list, as we are sure that they will fall in our love with our bundle of fluff.

10th August Update
One of Ulla’s puppies takes two 1st places at a companion show. One of these included the prettiest bitch in a class of 20. At this same show Ulla’s daughter also then went onto achieve her silver good citizen test. Thus further proving Ulla’s abilities to produce TEMPERAMENT, BRAINS, and BEAUTY.

Are EXTENSIVELY SOCIALISED (we do FAR MORE than the bog standard exposing them to sights & sound CD’s within the household)
Are encouraged to be TOUCH / TOY / FOOD MOTIVATED via using a variable reward system during their OBEDIENCE & AGILITY TRAINING (fixed tunnel, and passing through 2 sticks in the ground representing the jump).
All of this is ESSENTIAL towards the production of CORRECT TEMPERAMENTS, and INTELLIGENT LOVING FAMILY MEMBERS.
Puppies undergo the following training:
BASIC OBEDIENCE (improves cognitive functioning & thus trainability & it helps towards producing top of the class puppy owners)

CRATE (can help towards LESS NOISE on a night, clean puppies, & PREVENTING CHEWING)

PLAYING IN WATER (fun for the dog & family) GROOMING (essential for all dog owners)
HOUSE training (house trained puppies chose to wee OUTSIDE, paper trained puppies choose to wee inside on paper)
Dad is a RICH PIGMENTED EXTREMELY LOW HIP SCORED SCH1 BRITISH JUNIOR SEIGER who not only was 06 / 07 / 08 CRUFTS QUALIFIED, but who received an EXTREMELY high position in the last German regional 07 show which was judged by the judge who went onto judge the 07 Seiger. Both of his parents have German V show qualifications. A top winning UK show kennel & producer of Champions bred him. His lines are EUROPEAN SHOW LINES with WORKING QUALIFICATIONS. We do not own dad.
Mum is RICH PIGMENTED, and she also has an EXTREMELY GOOD HIP SCORE & a PERFECT ELBOW SCORE. Mum has won 14 x 1st places, BOB, 4 x BP & 1 x Best Pastoral Puppy. The Irish Seiger’s Top 05 Kennel & producer of numerous Champions bred mum. An obedience judge who randomly saw mum being put through her paces in the car park of a dog club commented favourably upon her obedience, and thus later on in the year we are looking to tidy up her work in an aim to obtain her a couple of obedience awards. Mum’s father is a SCH III German import who made Champion status in 3 shows (the minimum needed). He is the TOP STUD dog for 06 & the JOINT TOP STUD of 05, and he is the sire of the Reserve Top Winning Male 08 (who is also a UK Champion). Mum’s mother has also successfully been shown, and she herself is a green star winner (Ireland’s equivalent to the UK’ CCs that are needed for Champion status).
In 5 Generations of dad’s pedigree there are 11 WORLDWIDE SEIGERS (including a DOUBLE SEIGER) & 2 RESERVE SEIGER / 4 Worldwide JUNIOR SEIGER / 2 RESERVE JUNIOR SEIGER / 10 Worldwide VA placements. There are also 61 SCH / 7 FH / 3 IP and 1 BHP awards. 2 dogs even have their HGH award!
In 5 Generations of mum’s pedigree there are 3 WORLD SEIGERS, 14 SEIGER (including Youth Seiger), 10 RESERVE SEIGER, and 13 CHAMPION / VA placements. There are also approximately 42 SCH / 9 FH / 1 IP3 awards.
Mum was deemed by her breeder too be valuable to be sold alone, and thus she had to have a litter for him in 06. This has been her only other litter. The puppies from this litter were all deemed to have perfect temperaments (which was proven by a couple of them obtaining their good citizen awards). One of the puppies is currently being successful in agility and confirmation, and another who was deemed to have the least show potential (poor aesthetics & confirmation) still went onto take a respectable 1st & 3rd at open show level and a 4th in an entry of 15 at a General Championship show with CC’s on offer. Thus we are very excited about the potential of this litter, and we will be aiming to retain at least one of her babies.

Our homes range from 1st time dog owners to homes that have produced conformational Champions in other breeds, and homes that are extremely successful within the working fields (obedience, etc.). Although it is nice to see a puppy’s credentials proven within the rings all that we really want is to see our puppies in homes in which they will be LOVED & HAPPY (i.e. BELOVED FAMILY PETS).
My following achievements should help me to fulfil my long-term goal. I have undertaken an ANIMAL SCIENCE DEGREE, participated in additional BEHAVIOURAL LECTURES (including Ian Dumbars), extensively researched the confirmation of dogs, the German Shepherd Dog’s original purpose, and the development of puppy behaviour. I am also the member of several dog clubs, regularly give advice to newcomers on the behaviour and training of dogs, and I am a regular participator in KC recognised dog shows (including Crufts).
Due to the RELATIVELY UNIQUE way we raise our puppies & our HIGHLY DESIRABLE PURE PLATINUM PEDIGREES & BEAUTIFUL PARENTS we usually get a VERY high response to our adverts. Without advertising this litter we already have people who are very interested within it. Thus because it is in our potential forever homes, our and the puppies best interests for their homes to be finalised prior to them being 8 weeks of age we have decided that we will continue to accept enquires for puppies (& certain positions within our list) until we have received deposits for all of the available puppies within this litter.
Due to the vulnerability of very young puppies to infection they cannot be viewed until they are over 3 weeks of age ). After then they can be hugged, loved and cooed over as much as you want too.

The GSD breed standard describes a dog that has the breed characteristics that people associate with the breed (i.e. colouration & erect ears) AND a dog that was supposed to be capable of working all day which was also capable of living with a family. An ill dog of poor temperament and poor movement would be incapable of doing this. Thus the GSD breed standard does take into consideration TEMPERAMENT & GENETIC HEALTH & therefore good breeders breed with the breed standard in mind. VA awards are only given in our breed if the dog not only looks to have the construction which should make it capable of working all day but if it has proven this via an endurance test, if it has proven its workability via a working award (SCH), and if it has proven its genetic health in terms of its hips & recently elbows status. Our breed is at the forefront of attempting to produce healthy dogs with a good temperament. Some fractions of our breed have been suggesting a split from the KC as they would prefer to see our breeds and its breeder’s attempts to prove temperament & genetic health being distinguished from breeders of breeds that do not have the same aims. Our breed also tries to encourage genetic diversity via importing new bloodlines. Although there will always be some people who show for the thrill of winning we show in an attempt to prove our dogs merits, and to prove that our opinions are not biased / kennel blind, and so that we can make our judgements upon our breeding partners based on meeting the dogs in the flesh as opposed to a picture. None KC recognised dogs tend to stem from dogs that have been bred as puppies (i.e. below 12 months of age), that have had more than 6 litters, or which have a breed fault such as temperament or genetic health. Thus although the KC could improve the situation via only accepting registrations from health scored parents for the time being at least KC registration helps to distinguish breeders from those which can ONLY be breeding for financial gain (aka puppy farmers & back street breeders who care little or who have little knowledge or preventing behavioural & genetic problems).
